I walked into Southeast Portland’s Threshold Brewing & Blending for the first time in 2019 to write a profile about the new brewery. The owners had put blood, sweat and tears into creating a family- and neighborhood-friendly space, and my first impression was being wowed with their work and design.

Then homebrewer-turned-brewery co-founder Jarek Szymanski handed me one of his beers. That Fuzzface New England IPA was impeccable, and it began my obsession with the beers coming out of his brewhouse. The next beer he had me try was his Roma coffee stout, and it ended up in my Top 10 beers in Portland for 2019, landing at No. 6.
