Check out the menus and the full release:

“Two of DC’s most up and coming cocktail talents will debut TROUBLE BIRD, a 40-seat cocktail bar, on February 28th, 2023. Located in Washington, DC’s Navy Yard neighborhood at 1346 4th ST SE next to Albi. Trouble Bird is the brainchild of Andrew Hurn and Justin Cara-Donna, teaming up with Sommelier Brent Kroll of Maxwell Park. The playful bar devotes itself to giving a grandma’s basement or lounge feel without taking itself too seriously, with 14 featured cocktails, and a small wine program from Brent Kroll.

The name “Trouble Bird” is multi-pronged –

“When talking about our favorite spaces to be in, there was always the refrain of “that place is trouble”, referring to how hard it could be to leave your favorite bar. This space started with that aspiration, to live at the intersection of being high energy and comfortable with great food and drinks, a place you just don’t want to leave that appeals to the trouble birds among us.”

Trouble Bird will be taking over the former Maxwell Navy Yard space that debuted in March of 2020.

The Cocktail Bar will showcase categories “Breakfast for Dinner”, “Frozen”, “Large Format” and “Classic-ish”. The food is a cocktail friendly menu with savory and umami centric plates from Chef Ben Plyraharn. Look for items like Lion Maine Mushroom Laab Tostada, Carbonara Panini and Thai Tea éclair to be fast favorites. Chef Ben Plyraharn specialized in modern Thai Food and has been doing pop-ups for his upcoming concept called Urai. Brent Kroll will have a handful of wines by the glass and half bottles selected with a focus on costal wines.

“I think if a bar feels like grandma’s basement and makes good drinks, you’ve got a good think.” -Andrew Hurn

“We want the bar to be trouble because you want to stay” -Justin Cara-Donna

The rustic space has been redesigned to have a darker feel for a late night vibe. A mix of punk rock, disco and hip-hop will play throughout. A seven table patio will play the same music and offer the full menu.

Also to look forward to in the near future: spirits tastings and a monthly cocktail club.

Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Trouble Bird will be closed on Mondays. It will be open on Tuesday – Thursday from 5pm-1am, Friday from 5pm-2am, Saturday from 3pm-2am and 3pm-11pm on Sunday.”
